Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear? ([personal profile] neigedens) wrote2007-01-12 07:04 pm

(no subject)

So I started reading Francisca Solar's Spanish HP epic. You know, the one that got her a book deal and the ability to sound like her ego is as long as her native country.

So I opened the fic up and read the title as "'Harry Potter and the Occasion of the Tall Elves.' Wait, what?"

I r FAIL at Spanish. This is only the third Spanish novel (or novel-length, at any rate) I've ever read and so far it’s somewhere significantly above “El Código Da Vinci” and significantly below “Cien Años de Soledad.” I r also FAIL at literature.

I'm curious about this, but I don't read Spanish. On the other hand, I'm also quite suspicious of anyone who thinks that a story told mostly from a single character's viewpoint will be improved by offering lots of viewpoints... And, come to that, of someone who says she can't get into Tolkien because there are too many descriptions and not enough plot.

Interestingly enough, she added an author's note to the story overnight.

Now I see that maybe I made a mistake, that I could said it in another way, in a better way, in order to not confused you, but the only thing I was trying to say is that I put another components in my fanfic that Jo just don't use in her books, like really party time between the students, sexual tension (in an adolescent kind of view), other powerful magic-races (like Elves), more maturity in Harry, etc. THAT'S what I mean with "rich". I'm no Jo and I'm not intended to put her away or something like that.

I'm not sure I agree that adding Tolkien-esque elves adds that much more to Harry Potter, but it's kind of cool she got a book deal, anyway.

Well, it's certainly easy to be taken out of context... I agree with you about the elves, but also that it's great to see a fic writer getting respect in the wider world.
