BETA ME SOMEBODY PLZ

I am getting excited for NaNoWriMo again, you guys! I "won" last year (although actually I wrote 50,000 words of AU for a TOS episode that's so bad I've only been able to watch once because it embarrasses me too much, so, you know, given values of "win" here.) In any case, it was really fun and now I'm trying to think of a project for this year that will be suitably entertaining for a whole month.

I've had this idea for awhile to try writing a Dean Thomas/Luna Lovegood road trip-type fic set during DH, but that would probably necessitate rereading the seventh book and I'm not sure I feel like it lately, even with the movie coming out.

But anyway, my point was that with NaNo coming up I'm trying to finish some shit, and I was looking for someone to beta this Jeff/Shirley story. It's about 5,000 words and it has a really stupid title so I need some help here, guys.

I would love to beta your story!

the underscore drifter at juno dot com !

I would totally read that Dean/Luna road trip fic if you wrote it, though I understand why you might not want to reread DH (since I'm not sure I would either).

Oh, heh - if you need to share it as a Google Doc, could you share it with lovecutsthestrings at gmail instead? Thanks! :)

I didn't hate DH or HBP either, but... actually I'm not sure I'd want to reread any of the books all that much now, come to think of it. So it may be an age thing! ;) Though I was older even when the earlier books came out. And yeah, love for Luna! And Dean!

I've always wanted to write an epic fic where he goes on adventures running from Death Eaters/finds out all that backstory about his dad.

That sounds oh so fantastic. Besides your "Thestrals," I can only think of two other Dean stories I've read and liked - I know there are more, obviously, but I don't really remember the rest. And in case you might be interested too:

This Is A Low. As much danger as Dean had seen knowing Harry, Hermione had seen even more. He'd seen her afraid, but he'd never seen her run away. Dean and Seamus had talked once about going to visit her, when she was Petrified, because Padma and Parvati thought it would be nice. None of them had gone in the end. They should have, he thought. PG. 1660 words. Dean & Hermione gen. I really like this story as a character study of Dean and how he might have come to a turning point after HBP (though I guess this is AU now, what with DH). Dean doesn't have a warm or close relationship with Hermione, but he's as perceptive about her kinder and more heroic qualities as he is about her faults from his perspective, and the same goes for Dean's views of his other schoolmates and friends. I also really love Dean's voice here - realistic, thoughtful, and unsentimental.

Fra Pandolf's Hands. He hadn’t felt this afraid of magic since first year, when he’d accidentally turned Seamus into a little, wizened old man in Charms, and had to wait outside the door with his heart pounding while Professor Flitwick reversed the spell. But no spell could reverse a death. PG. ~6500 words. Dean, OC mentor; cameos from Draco, Scrimgeour, Bagman. Gen. Richly imagined, intelligent, well-plotted AU for book 7. Author's summary: Dean thinks his dreams have come true when the most famous painter in the wizarding world takes him on as an apprentice. But magical portraiture is a dangerous enterprise, and in the final days of the war, the Minister for Magic approaches the young artist with a commission that may end in murder.

Yay! Yeah, I'm just about to reread the second one, since I finished rereading the first and as I recall they were both great. :)
