Wankage, thy name is IMDb
Aug. 29th, 2005 10:02 pmTaking a break from the Harmonian's whining, I decided to look at the IMDb debate boards. Some stand outs were the comments on the Fargo boards. Gold, my friends. Pure gold.
I don't know about anyone else, but the accents seemed exagerated, hurtful and stereotypical of the northern American border. I think that was just the Coens pulling a mean joke on those people up north. I thought it was funny, but at the same time I felt uneasy about it.
*cries because she is a poor Northern girl the Coens have made fun of. Oh, woe is me.*
That one's good, but not quite as good as it could be. Read on:
I think this movie did everything in its power to make everyone think that everybody in Minnesota talks like an idiot. It really pisses me off, because it isn't true. There are some idiots who talk like that, but not everybody in the entire damn state of Minnesota does. Not everybody talks to each other like they've known each other for years.
The last line kind of baffles me. The point is that all these people in the movie (except for the Lundegaards, who live in the shelter of suburbia) are in a pretty small town, so it makes sense that they've all known each other for years.
Another I don't think the poster quite was the fact that the Coens were trying to poke fun at the concept of "Minnesota Nice," (which is kinda funny, since somebody ends up getting shoved into a woodchipper.) Kinda flew over her head I think.
But, of course, nothing could top this one:
F u c k you too!!!! You people are so f u c k i n g stupid!!! "As thick as molasses"???????? NO!!!!!!!! If you ACTUALLY listened to the accents of Minnesota, you would understand that that movie is so off, its not even funny, my father and mother are so offended by that movie because of how they portray us that is makes me sick.
What the poor spaced-out little swearing lamb does not realize is that when you're growing up, you don't see yourself as having an accent at all. It's the rest of the world that speaks funny, but you yourself sound totally normal. (Most of the people who claim not to talk anything like the characters in Fargo are the ones who sound more like it than anyone. Funny, that.)
