neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (our flashback wasn't color corrected)
Today I didn't work, so I thought I'd go to the library and do some writing on a computer with a keyboard isn't the size of a postage stamp. (I'm actually growing somewhat fond of this tiny laptop that I think my mom won in a raffle, but this does not change the fact that its apostrophe key is in a stupid place and I'm too scared to install a non-shitty (read: non-IE) browser on it for fear of making it explode.) Instead of writing anything or doing anything remotely useful with the computers taxpayers like me have paid for, I instead started backreading a bunch of the Filthy Critic archives and then I moved onto the Wikipedia overviews of the Saw movies out of perverse curiosity.

I've never actually seen any of the Saw movies as the very concept makes me a bit sick, but I have to imagine that that you get about as much a sense of the characters' motivations and of the plot itself from reading the Wikipedia summaries as you do from watching the actual movie, and one option means that you see 100% less of the insides of a characters' intestines so, you know, there is that.

tl;dr, bottom line is I got nothing done today by wasting time in the stupidest possible way and IT WAS CARY ELWES BEHIND THE MURDERS ALL ALONG.

Today I turned 21! I went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch and they said their birthday specials were either a free sopapilla or a shot of tequila. Since I was there with my grandma I got the sopapilla and it was A++++ delicious. :D Sometime later this week when people aren't working/busy I'm going to make all my friends get drunk and watch "Spock's Brain" with me because I still haven't seen it yet and since it's my birthday I figure they will have to do what I say.

But otherwise it was a nice day, even though the drunken Trek-viewing didn't pan out. My parents gave me a nice 4 GB mp3 player and also, more importantly, [personal profile] gloss posted an amazing Shirley/Britta fic that you must read right now because I love it. :D

Also, unrelated to anything, I can't stop watching this:

It's even better than that "Kirk is a Womanizer" vid I couldn't stop watching a few months ago. *_*

- I AM STILL SO EXCITED ABOUT TURNING 21 YOU GUYS. June is all around a really great month for birthdays! For instance, my bff Nyssa's birthday is the 14th and a few weeks ago her little brother Adric (hahaha get it?) sent me a message on Facebook the other day about this great gift idea...nyssa DON'T READ THIS OR I WILL CUT YOU )

- IT'S TROY WEEK OVER AT [livejournal.com profile] community_tv YOU GUYS. Just like last week, there's a character-centric Fanworks Meme that you should go prompt/fill!

- On that note:
Introduction to Fashion and Design, Troy/Abed, 500 words
It was love at first sight.

- Last week, as I mentioned, was Shirley Week and while I had a few problems with the fic I was working on (problems that can be summed up in two words as: "detective AU," BUT THAT'S A WHOLE 'NOTHER ENTRY) there was a lot of cool stuff posted, my favorite being these bits of fanart. &Shirley;

Few Community things!

- [livejournal.com profile] agiantcookie is a new Troy/Abed comm on LJ! Nothing's really posted there yet so PERHAPS YOU SHOULD BE THE ONE TO CHANGE THAT. :D?
- [livejournal.com profile] community_tv is having a Shirley Fanworks Meme which is an idea so awesome that I may have just died and gone to heaven.

Yesterday night/this morning I went to a party/wake for my friend's Shih Tzu, Andy, AKA the Pirate Pooch. They called him that because he was so old towards the end there that he had only one eye, two snaggly-teeth, and he walked in a way that I can't really describe but that made me think that he should have been carrying a blunderbuss, if that makes any sense at all. At any rate, up until the end he wasn't in pain and was a really sweet, good-natured little guy, so hopefully somewhere he is happy, Pirate Pooch-ing it up like there's no tomorrow. ♥

(Unfortunately, this has made think about how my own dog is only a year younger than Andy was. Thankfully, I think Lily has made some sort of pact with Satan and is going to live for a long time, just to spite all her enemies. ♥Lily♥)
neigedens: werewolf? i don't know, you had him last! (i'm going to follow the hell out of him!)
On Saturday morning my bff Nyssa and I went to an LGBT rights rally at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul! We were protesting two speakers there, Prop. 8's biggest fans OM NOM NOM's Maggie Gallagher and Bishop Salvatore Cordileone.

Keep in mind that St. Thomas was the same school that didn't allow Archbishop Desmond Tutu to speak on-campus because he has been critical of Israel's past human rights violations. (They eventually changed their tact and condescended to allow him to speak, but by then Tutu had decided not to come for some reason.)

There was a pretty sizable group of us (about 250 people) and it was a really lovely morning out. I'm really glad I went! Also there were free sticky buns and balloons and God knows I always love that shit. This is a pretty good article about what went down. It gets awesomely conspiracy theorist-y at the end:

But other than holding forth on marriage, family, and life to participants in a series of smaller forums on that subject run by the Archdiocese, it is not completely clear why Gallagher was in St Paul. Was it to help cover-up the most recent round of priestly child abuse scandals, as the head of the Catholic LGBT group Dignity Twin Cities told the rally? Was it to lay the groundwork for a push to further limit the rights of same-gender couples in Minnesota?

DA DUN DUNNNNN. I sense that Michele Bachmann was somehow involved in all this (NO I DIDN'T SEE HER.)

Yesterday I forgot what time my shift at Target was supposed to end, so I ended up staying 15 minutes later than I was supposed too. 15 MINUTES TOO LONG, amirite, but otoh a lolzy guy who was buying Star Trek on DVD came through my line and we bonded over our mutual fannishness of Karl Urban while I bagged his groceries. Dude's a big fan of Eomer, so that was all right. :D

(Also a big fan of Chronicles of Riddick, which is perhaps less okay but to each his own!)

7436 / 50000 words. 15% done!

YEAH MOTHERFUCKER! Not much else to say, I have been busy with work and school lately, so I thought I'd throw NaNo into the midst. Just to make it interesting!

This morning it was raining very hard, so I brought a towel along with me when I biked to the bus station because I had this elaborate plan set up to ensure that my pants didn't get wet, which ended up not working at all because it was too damn cold to roll up my pant cuffs but it wasn't raining that hard at the time anyway, but

ANYWAY my point in that boring little digression was that I had this towel with me! And I learned that not only can you wrap a towel around your head to save yourself from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, you apparently can also use it to wipe off your face when you start crying on the bus over the fact that you lost your wallet and are stranded at the Mall of America.

D:

So yeah, kind of a rough day but some things were less than shitty, at least. For instance, my inability to keep from crying in public while talking with my mom over the phone led to a guy giving me $10 for the bus. Lol pathetic, I know, but I don't care because guess who had enough money left over to buy lunch? \o/ Filling out this meme also seriously cheered me up. And I am assuming by "pairings," they actually meant "threesomes or foursomes or whatever."

TOS: all pairings are OTP, but some are more OTP than others. )

MST3K: surprisingly, the hardest one to choose from )

Psych, or the only one I actually have a true OTP for )

That's it!

Nyssa and I went to the Great Minnesota Get-Together this week! It was a super-awesome, super-high caloric intake kind of day. We had nice weather and we saw many great sights. The coolest sight was Minnesota's Largest Boar, who is named Jesse Ventura Dino and is roughly one million pounds and must be fed continuously on a diet of giblets and the souls of the wicked. No, but seriously, it was one freaky-looking pig.

Oh, the Republicans had a building there, too! They had a sign out front that said "WHITES ONLY" "Welcome to Obamacare! The Nurse Will See You In About A Billion Years!" Ha, ha, Republicans! They can make all the jokes they want, but will they be laughing when Obama declares himself the Supreme Socialist Overlord of the West and enslaves all the white people? I think not!

Anyway, while Nyssa and I were cavorting around the fair, Senator Not Norm Coleman was finally getting us our money's worth after taking About A Billion Years to be elected:

Senator Franken ♥_♥

(Also, check out the guy at 7:25 with the question on every teabagger's mind: "Is there some way I can blame this on immigrants?" JFC. /o\)

Have I been on a soul kick lately? Well, I've been listening to basically nothing but Sam Cooke during my convalescence. (I twisted my ankle while on a mission to buy tomatoes. Some of us suffer for our farm fresh produce let me tell you internet.) I'll even listen to him sing "This Little Light of Mine," which is a song I have long loathed because of how I associate it with being forced to go to church, wear uncomfortable shoes as a child, and act as Herod in the Nativity play.

(Oh hey, Bob! When you sing like that I cannot imagine why anyone would arrest you because they think you're a crazy hobo.)

Do I totally ship Sam Cooke/Bob Dylan? Uh, check out the video. They basically were in love with each other...MUSICALLY. >:D

I need a beta for a Spock/McCoy fic, can someone plz assist? :D?

This weekend I achieved a dream I have had since childhood. My family reunion was up by Duluth this weekend (the one where we all camp out on my aunt's lawn like a bunch of drunk, volleyball-playing hobos) and I spent the entire time in the same pair of jeans and T-Shirt because I am that lazy HARDCORE. Like, I even slept in that shit, that's how intense it was. Showers are for the weak, so I ended up smelling of an intriguing melange of cigarette smoke, cigar smoke (one of my uncles always brings up some classy shit from Honduras or something), bonfire smoke, egg (I tried to fry one in the bonfire), Dr. Pepper, raspberries, and margarita mix. Lol camping. Taking a shower when I got home was A++++, at any rate, and I had an excellent time, what with all the family persons and booze around.

Also, a meme! Stolen from, uh, everyone:
Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post
