neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (uhura/sulu badtouch!)
Hello, flist/circle! I added a bunch of people a few weeks ago during the 3W4DW Social Anxiety Friending Meme and then, for reasons that I hope are obvious, didn't update for like six weeks after that. Anyway, hello, new friends and old! Sorry it took so long for me to, like, say stuff.

So, what have I been up to? Well, many things: I've been using 750words.com to start a daily writing habit and, as a consequence, I've been starting a few fics for Doctor Who (which I am loving thise season.) I've signed up at the LJ comm [livejournal.com profile] ficfinishing in the hopes of finishing one (or all!) of them before they're made obsolete by new episodes.

For whatever reason, though, the story that has the most momentum right now is the one that doesn't have a deadline. I started writing a Star Trek: TOS/Star Wars crossover for the lulz, and now it's about 10,000 words of Uhura/McCoy/Han Solo sex and heist shenanigans. The working title is "How Uhura made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs." There...really is no excuse for this.

But anyway, as a consequence of this I'm rewatching the original trilogy. Because I'm worried about making Chewbacca in-character. It's difficult to imagine what his speech patterns must sound like in Shryiiwook! So anyway, expect a post about "A New Hope" later, because now that I haven't updated in weeks it's imperative that I do it like three times in a day. Duh.

So, in conclusion: nice to meet you, new f/rlisters, and I apologize in advance.

This fic needs to reach everyone, every where. It's that good.

Turning Towards Television, Community/Star Trek: TOS Crossover. Spock/M'Benga, Scotty/Uhura, Kirk/Shirley, Jeff/Uhura. Instead of traveling to the 1960s and meeting with up Gary Seven, the Enterprise travels to 2011 where they seek to investigate the media saturated culture of the day. They end up with more than they bargained for when they beam down to Greendale.

I love crossovers, you guys. I used to have no opinion on them. I can't even believe that.
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (like some kind of fairy tale)
Hello there, [community profile] femslash10 writer! If you have been assigned me, you should know that I am pretty happy with mostly anything. I multi-ship like it's my religion and like a wide-variety of genres. I prefer light-hearted fic as a rule (which I think fits the fandoms I've requested, to a degree?). Not to say that I don't get into Serious Fic, but something with a lolzy edge to it is always appreciated. Obviously all of the stuff I mention here is just a guide and you should feel free to GO WILD.

stuff re: my requests )

Random shit I like: prison escape stories, stupid sitcom-esque plots (especially with Community), bantering, ~chosen families~, robots, dogs, robot dogs.

And that's all I can think of! Thank you and I hope this helps you in writing. I love all these fandoms and I'm sure I will like whatever you write. ♥

Today I turned 21! I went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch and they said their birthday specials were either a free sopapilla or a shot of tequila. Since I was there with my grandma I got the sopapilla and it was A++++ delicious. :D Sometime later this week when people aren't working/busy I'm going to make all my friends get drunk and watch "Spock's Brain" with me because I still haven't seen it yet and since it's my birthday I figure they will have to do what I say.

But otherwise it was a nice day, even though the drunken Trek-viewing didn't pan out. My parents gave me a nice 4 GB mp3 player and also, more importantly, [personal profile] gloss posted an amazing Shirley/Britta fic that you must read right now because I love it. :D

Also, unrelated to anything, I can't stop watching this:

It's even better than that "Kirk is a Womanizer" vid I couldn't stop watching a few months ago. *_*
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (K 9 and four)
When you see this, post a snippet from your works-in-progress.

Oh my gosh this is exciting.

3 ST: TOS excerpts )

2 Community excerpts )

1 Doctor Who/MST3K excerpt )

Ha, that was really fun. :D
neigedens: jeff and abed are hungover (jeff and abed)
Saw The Beast Below! spoilers, like you care )

tl;dr, basically I think it all would have been better if they'd brought in Spock to mind-meld with it.
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
So this year I think I officially wrote enough fic that I can justify posting a MOTHERFUCKING FIC ROUNDUP.

Uh, and by that I mean that I posted a grand total of two (2) fics this year. But that is one (1) more than last year, so here are the links!

Do Vulcans Dream of Electric Doctors?, which is Spock/McCoy mindsex set during Search for Spock.

Rewriting the Script, which is Community fic where Annie and Abed and Troy make a sex tape.

This is a tiny list, sure, but I still feel ok because

1) I actually did write 50,000 words of fic for NaNo this year that I am still editing. (And by editing of course I mean opening the tab in Google Docs for a second and then shuddering and looking away.)

2) I have a Big Plans! For the future! With fic and fun pairings! (like Shirley/Britta from Community. For some reason I am really into this pairing all of a sudden. *_*) Possibly I will make more fic lists. IDK, I forgot how fun it is posting fic on archives instead of just your LJ, you know? It feels more ~official~ for absolutely no reason at all.

Happy New Year, everyone!

This morning it was raining very hard, so I brought a towel along with me when I biked to the bus station because I had this elaborate plan set up to ensure that my pants didn't get wet, which ended up not working at all because it was too damn cold to roll up my pant cuffs but it wasn't raining that hard at the time anyway, but

ANYWAY my point in that boring little digression was that I had this towel with me! And I learned that not only can you wrap a towel around your head to save yourself from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, you apparently can also use it to wipe off your face when you start crying on the bus over the fact that you lost your wallet and are stranded at the Mall of America.

D:

So yeah, kind of a rough day but some things were less than shitty, at least. For instance, my inability to keep from crying in public while talking with my mom over the phone led to a guy giving me $10 for the bus. Lol pathetic, I know, but I don't care because guess who had enough money left over to buy lunch? \o/ Filling out this meme also seriously cheered me up. And I am assuming by "pairings," they actually meant "threesomes or foursomes or whatever."

TOS: all pairings are OTP, but some are more OTP than others. )

MST3K: surprisingly, the hardest one to choose from )

Psych, or the only one I actually have a true OTP for )

That's it!

Funny story: a long time ago I used to pretend that I was so beyond memes because I was very intellectually smrt and stuff and my opinions were original and important. Well, I am older and arguably wiser now and I know better than to pretend. I FUCKING LOVE MEMES YOU GUYS.

My username is: neigedens, because oú sont les d'antan? :(

My journal name is: Veteran Minimalist, which I had forgotten but it's what Tom calls Crow in "Pod People" when they are making beautiful music together. ♥

My title is: "If you're like me, and I know I am..." which is something Joel says like once during an invention exchange, I don't even remember which episode.

My subtitle is: None because we live in strapped times and not all of us can afford to throw subtitles on everything ok. >:(

My friends page is called: "You're all evil and I hope you all have snacks!" which is again with the MST3K. It's from the episode "The Thing That Couldn't Die," which is my favorite MST episode with a disembodied head-theme. (Not to be confused with "The Brain that Couldn't Die," which is basically the same movie but with a lady as the disembodied head instead of a pirate and also is a bit skeevier because women's bodies are commodified like whoa. Like seriously, the plot of the movie is "I have to kill a woman and steal her body for mah lovely, crazy girlfriend. Who's just a head." DDDDDDDD:) Also it's an awesome episode because the host segments are a parody of "Shore Leave," which I didn't realize until, like, last week. /o\

My default icon is: because Bones has had it with these motherfucking tribbles on this motherfucking starship. >:/ Except when Spock's around, in which case he looooooves them because they're cute.
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
I reread The House of the Spirits this week because I'd like to try to read it in Spanish and I figure it'll be helpful to reread and also because some of it is, quite simply, LOLZY AS SHIT. For instance! There is the part where their grandmother Nívea is decapitated in a car accident and, using her incredibly annoying clairvoyant powers, Clara finds her head and promptly afterward goes into labor with twins. So the head gets stashed in a hatbox and forgotten for FIFTY YEARS until the evil rapist grandfather remembers it's there and is like "Oh, yeah, you guys should probably bury my mother-in-law's head." GEE, THANKS EVIL RAPIST GRANDPA. I recommend this book, for the sheer WTF factor, which is why I like most magical realism, I suppose.

Also I have been reading Wodehouse because I've been rewatching some "Jeeves and Wooster" with [livejournal.com profile] ms_treesap and today I started reading Diane Duane's Spock's World, which I would recommend even if it sucked (it doesn't) for one reason and one reason only: Lieutenant Naraht, the Horta. Holy shit.

edit: Also, I saw "Inglorious Basterds" last week and liked it in the same way I liked this dream I had once where Harrison Ford and I were brutally killing Nazi zombies. /o\

So you know when you're up late at night, watching Star Trek movies, and suddenly you want to write Spock/McCoy fic from when Bones had Spock's katra all up in his grill? We all go through that phase, but some of us are weaker than others!

TITLE: Do Vulcans Dream of Electric Doctors?
PAIRING: Spock/McCoy
SUMMARY: “It's probably not even your fault, Spock,” he muttered. “I was probably destined to go mad in space some day anyway. You probably just made the process a lot more efficient. How typical.” Dr. McCoy has got Vulcan on the brain.
NOTES: This fic is set during “The Search for Spock” and happens to reference a lot to a certain TOS episode, the second season's “Bread and Circuses.” For those of you who have not seen it, I will sum up: gladiators and ~sexual tension~. That's about it.

Also thanks to Chickdude, [livejournal.com profile] ms_treesap, and [livejournal.com profile] ishie for beta-ing and reading beforehand.

I have discovered Tiger Beatdown, this blog for ladythings, and HOLY SHIT I think I have a new internet girlfriend, you guys. My internet boyfriend used to be Nate Silver, but he has not made sweet, numeric love to me for several months and no one is sadder about that than me.

Getting back to the pwnage, my favorite bit of the approximately 300 posts that I backread today was the Tucker Max Facebook quiz post about this trailer:

Yeah, I don't even know. Don't watch the trailer if you object to guys talking about killing fat girls because, uh, they are fat.

Fun meme stuff, now, though! For [livejournal.com profile] ishie:

Top five nicknames for Mr Burton Guster )

and

Top five ways you would have rebooted ST:TOS )

Basically if I had rebooted TOS I probably would have not excised all the female characters that weren't Uhura, Winona, and Amanda. :(
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
I have been re-reading Harry Potter for the first time in what turned out to be quite awhile! It turns out that I never actually read HBP nor DH after the first 48 hours that I bought them, so subsequently I misremembered where I put one and also totally forgot the glory that is

Roonil Wazlib

For shame, I know. I have very vague memories of DH as well because I was high on a mixture of Robitussin and adrenaline from almost being in a car crash during those tumultuous 48 hours in which I read it. I do remember HARRY, RON, AND HERMIONE ROBBING THE BANK WITH A DRAGON, FUCK YEAH and also a bunch of all the characters I loved dying, which kind of killed my joy over the dragonjacking. D: Still, &my first OT3; I am looking forward to when I finally find my copy of DH. If I ever do. lol messiest bedroom D:

Also! I have a Dreamwidth which I keep forgetting to use. I am going to use it soon, though, when I finish this ST fic I'm writing, though, so, you know. Watch for that. :/
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
I have been watching an ungodly amount of TOS lately, and I've gotten to the point where I've watched all the good ones and now am just sifting through and trying to find mildly lolzy parts of the later episodes where they had about two dollars to spend on a set and the costume budget was a placemat and a hell of a lot of tinfoil. It can get kind of boring, but it is seriously rewarding when you do find something good, like, oh, when you uncover the fiftieth time that Bones kind of creepily tries to get Spock to drink alcohol! Well, it has happened three times so far (and Bones has a 66% success rate, by the way), but I think it counts as a trend.

why? the answer probably involves roofies )

Also, I watched "Devil in the Dark" and I can totally see why it's Nimoy's favorite episode because it's pretty much the TOS version of "The Voyage Home": unsubtle environmental message featuring Spock mind melding and ~bonding~ with some lumpy, maternal, and yet misunderstood organism. I loved it like Spock loves the Horta. :DDDDD
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
One of the (many) things I love about "The Tholian Web" is that it proves that, while Vulcans can't lie, they can apparently troll when it's for the lolz GREAT JUSTICE. Maybe this exception only applies to Kirk?

Anyway, the point is that Spock and Bones are so in loooooove and this is proven because Spock called him Bones and then Bones was so overcome with ~emotion~ that he fainted in Spock's arms which totally qualifies as some sort of subtext. :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
So despite the fact that I have Major Issues with how they dealt with Uhura in the movie, I do really like the idea that they're replacing the classic Kirk/Spock/McCoy manlove threesome thing with an OT4. I think [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn talked about it and I think some other people have brought it up.

Thematically, I really love this idea for so many reasons* even though I still really do have some strong reservations about Uhura's role. Sure, she and Bones do both have similar supporting roles and are more crucial to the development of the Spock/Kirk dynamic than they are as characters unto themselves, but I think there's big difference between Uhura, a minority female character who gets promoted from glorified secretary to female love interest and crucial emotional support for one of the major characters, and McCoy, White American Hero who (sort of?) gets demoted to just being the curmudgeonly BFF. I guess I'm less butthurt about him becoming less important than I am about being told that Uhura becoming the Girlfriend means that all of Star Trek's issues with feminism are solved, and that everything is now perfectly equal among the four main characters. I guess if there had been more than one female speaking role who was still alive by the end of the movie I might feel differently.** :/

In related news, I spent, like, 25% of my birthday watching "Amok Time" with Nyssa and loling, so yeah. I'm pretty good. :D

*These reasons mostly are that I could totally see the OT4 backfiring and McCoy and Uhura becoming reluctant bffs who get into lolzy drunken arguments together AND THEN THEY RULE THE WORLD.

**I take this back, I'm just being too pessimistic here. GAILA LIVES.

THIS IS AMAZING.

PROPOSITION: Someone should make a Kirk vid set to EVERY BRITNEY SPEARS SONG EVER.
neigedens: shirley examining tiny nipples (Default)
So I've seen the new Star Trek about 4 times, which is ridiculous, I know, but various people kept asking me to go with them and I'm always like "Oh, no, I couldn't possib--OKAY YEAH LET'S WATCH IT A MILLION TIMES? :D :D :D" I'm am the saddest nerd, it's true.

But anyway, I've also been watching a bunch of the original series and the old movies for the first time in forever because generally I love everyone in TOS except Kirk and after watching the Planet of the Gangsters episode where he makes up a card game to troll people I'm even kind of waffling on that. Nyssa and I watched the planet of the whales movie last night and I learned a lot about...whales and stuff, and the follies of man, but mostly about how Bones McCoy is my favorite and he always will be. I want about a million fics like this:

SPOCK PRIME: You once carried my soul, you know. :|
NEW!MCCOY: D:

I would read this fic a million times.
